‘Strengthens the fabric’ Blessed Sacrament observes Hispanic Heritage month

BURLINGTON, N.C. – Blessed Sacrament Catholic School came alive with vibrant colors, traditional music and cultural pride as the school community gathered Oct. 10 to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

The morning festivities brought together students, faculty, families and special guests for a meaningful tribute to Hispanic and Latino culture.

During Mass, students and attendees participated in prayers and hymns offered in both English and Spanish, reflecting the rich linguistic diversity of the Catholic faith and the school community.

St. Peter football team finishes perfect season as IBAC champs

GREENVILLE—The St. Peter Catholic School football team wrapped up its season Wednesday, Oct. 29, as undefeated IBAC conference champions, finishing with a perfect 7-0 record. Over the course of the season, the Wildcats scored 197 points while allowing only 28.

The team of 26 dedicated young men trained and competed from August 6 through October 29, balancing their athletic commitment with service to their parish and community. Many players also serve as student lectors, altar servers, and volunteers.

Pastor-Administrator Meeting strengthens schools’ leadership and mission

RALEIGH, North Carolina — Catholic school leaders from across the Diocese of Raleigh gathered Nov. 18 at Our Lady of Lourdes School's Fallon Center for the biennial Pastor-Administrator Meeting, a day-long gathering focused on strengthening Catholic education through collaborative leadership and renewed commitment to the Church's educational mission.

Superintendent Marcelo Eureste opened the meeting with prayer and welcomed pastors, principals and directors who came together to address critical issues facing Catholic schools in the diocese.  

St. John Paul II Catholic School welcomes new school year and regional governance

SOUTHERN PINES, NC – Bishop Luis Zarama, joined by Father John Forbes of Sacred Heart and Father John Kane of St. Anthony of Padua, celebrated Mass with students, faculty and families at St. John Paul II Catholic School to mark the start of the new school year. The visit and Mass also ushered in a new era for the school, which has officially transitioned to a regional governance model to better serve the growing Catholic community in Moore County, Hoke County, Fort Liberty and surrounding areas.

‘Immersed’ Catholic school has colorful part in coastal tradition

WILMINGTON – The school stage was ready for its historic moment. A podium was flanked by two pink azaleas, potted in gold foil. A large, 3D paper flower, in pink and yellow, was attached to the front of the podium. More than 30 chairs, labeled with name tags, faced the gym and were ready to seat student speakers, community leaders, artists, cadets, a queen and her court.

RALEIGH – Eighth grade students from the Diocese of Raleigh’s Catholic schools met at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral April 29 for Mass and an outdoor lunch organized in their honor.

They arrived from towns and cities, including Greenville, Southern Pines and Fayetteville, throughout the diocese. The students were joined by teachers, administrators, chaperones and parish priests.   

In his homily, Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama shared that the disciples were people who were doing their best.

Bishop visits St. Peter School in Greenville

Our school, St. Peter in Greenville, was blessed with a visit from Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama on Friday, May 2. We celebrated Mass as the first event of the day. Bishop Zarama shared a story in his homily about one of the times he met Pope Francis. He recounted how Pope Francis, in his humility, served his interpreter a glass of water during a very long meeting, rather than serving himself. The Mass was truly beautiful, with student lectors and songs from our school's two choirs—the Grace Notes and the Treble Cats.

SRCS Chess Club shines at 2nd SRCS chess tournament

The Saint Raphael Catholic School Chess Club made a powerful impression at the 2nd SRCS Chess Club Tournament, held Saturday, May 3 — and the results were nothing short of spectacular.

A total of 54 students from over seven schools competed in five challenging rounds, showcasing strategic thinking, composure under pressure, and great sportsmanship.

Representing SRCS were: Peter, Abbott, Liam, Wyatt F, Wyatt M, Basil, and Fletcher — and each of these dedicated “chessies” delivered inspiring performances!
